What is the General Processing Inventory?

The General Processing Inventory (GPI) is an educational inventory created by Ruth M. Geiman, PhD, first published in 1986 and reviewed in the Buros Center for Testing's Mental Measurements Yearbook (14th edition), the standard independent reference for published tests. It is used by educators and trained consultants to look at how a student processes information, meaning how the student takes in, holds, organizes and uses what is taught. The purpose is practical: once a teacher can see how a learner processes, instruction and accommodations can be matched to that learner.

The GPI is published in parts. Part II is the General Elementary Inventory of Mathematics and Numeration, known by the acronym GEIMAN, which focuses on mathematics and numeration at the elementary level. {{TO_CONFIRM: list the other parts of the GPI and what each covers}}

Alternatives for Contemporary Education is the consulting practice Dr. Geiman has led as consultant and CEO since 1986. Through it she trains faculty to accommodate students who have learning problems, trains consultants to administer testing for processing issues, and presents to educators and parents. The gold clover on the GEIMAN workbook cover is the practice's mark.
